A new season. The season of Lent, which begins on Ash Wednesday, February 18, 2026, prepares us for the great mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord, the central event of the church year and the theological core of the Christian faith. For 40 days (omitting Sundays), we are invited to recall Christ’s fasting and faithfulness in the wilderness through prayer and practice as we contemplate God’s loving and persistent presence in our lives and the life of the world. As winter turns to spring (the word Lent comes from the Old English lencten, the lengthening of days that mark springtime), Lent offers us the hopeful and solemn task of experiencing God’s mercy and salvation in a sinful and fallen world. We invite you to join us.
Below, please find Lenten events along with Lenten resources.
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Join us for the annual Shrove Tuesday pancake supper on Tuesday, February 17. Drop by anytime between 5:30 – 7 p.m. for delicious pancakes provided by our Men's Group. Pancakes (regular and gluten free), bacon, turkey sausage, plus toppings will be served, and there will be games and activities for children and adults...who will take home the Golden Spatula?
Suggested donation is $8 per individual or $24 per family. Historically, Shrove Tuesday was the last time to eat fat, butter, and eggs – the ingredients used in pancakes that many people decided to fast from during Lent. In French, it’s called Mardi Gras or Fat Tuesday! We hope you can join in and help build community at Ascension.
Ash Wednesday Services
February 18, 2026 at noon and 7 p.m.
We will offer the Ash Wednesday liturgy, including the imposition of ashes and Holy Communion in the church at noon and 7 p.m., with music at the 7 p.m. service.
