Family Worship is next Sunday, March 3 at the 10 a.m. service
Children, youth, and their families are welcome at all of our services, and on the first Sunday of every month, we highlight the importance of families worshiping together. There is no Sunday school, and we especially invite children, youth, and their families to participate as greeters, ushers, acolytes, and oblation bearers. If you or your children have not already signed up to participate, please contact Coordinator of Children's Ministries Sue Richardson at firstname.lastname@example.org. We also invite children to join us at the altar and include special teaching moments for all ages. Whatever your age, please plan to join us on Sunday, March 3 at 8 or 10 a.m.
Sunday school is moving
In order to be more accessible and welcoming to our children and their families, Sunday school is moving downstairs. Beginning Sunday, March 10, Sunday school for 4-12 year-olds will be located next to the Nursery (across from the back hallway entrance to the Parish Hall). (If you would like to help move the room, come to the Parish Hall tomorrow - February 23 at 9 a.m.)
Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, March 5 at 6 p.m.
Whether you call flapjacks, griddle cakes, or pancakes, we're serving them for supper on Shrove Tuesday, March 5 at 6 p.m. The tradition of eating pancakes on the day before Lent dates to the Middle Ages, when people made a point of eating foods like butter, eggs, and sugar that they would be giving up during the penitential season of Lent. Also known as Carnival ("farewell to meat") and Mardi Gras ("fat Tuesday"), Shrove Tuesday is a delicious and fun way for Ascension parishioners of all ages to celebrate our life together. If you're interested in helping, please contact Hank Dougan at email@example.com.
An invitation "to the observance of a holy Lent"
The season of Lent prepares us for Easter Day, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord, the central event of the church year, and the theological core of the Christian faith. Throughout the season of Lent, which begins with Ash Wednesday on March 6, we will explore ways for all ages to observe a holy Lent, in the words of the Book of Common Prayer, "by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word." Please join us as we observe a holy Lent.
Ash Wednesday services on March 6 at noon and 7 p.m. in the Church.
Lenten Quiet Day on Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Church.
Wednesday Night Lenten "Simple Suppers"
Don't miss on our Lenten suppers and learning for all ages on Wednesdays, March 13 and 20 and April 3 and 10 at 6 p.m. For adults, Rector Weezie Blanchard will lead a series on "Being Christian." Coordinator of Children's Ministries Sue Richardson will lead children ages 4-12 in the discovery of Lent. Child care will be available in the Nursery.
Do you have a favorite Lenten book or other spiritual practice that you would like to share? Please email Weezie Blanchard at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sign Up for Coffee Hour
The sign up sheets are on the north wall of the Parish Hall. You only need to bring ONE THING(sweet, savory, fruit/veggie, or juice). Drop it off in the kitchen on the way into church and your Hospitality Team will take care of the rest.
Interested in being part of the Hospitality Team? It is only one Sunday per month commitment. Get in touch with Doris Kimbrough at email@example.com or 303-408-3244 if you want to participate in this important piece of life at Ascension.
We Need You in the Parish Office!
Our team of office volunteers make things run much more smoothly for all of us. If you are interested in helping in the Parish Office on Mondays through Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. please contact Parish Administrator Celeste DeLeon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Celebrate Blessings with Altar Flowers
Altar flowers are a meaningful way to celebrate all the blessings in our lives, whether we're remembering the anniversary of a deceased love one's birth or death or honoring the birth of a new baby, a baptism, confirmation, graduation, marriage, wedding anniversary, or other milestone. If you would like to give altar flowers in memory or honor of someone, please sign up on the flower calendar by the Parish Hall entrance or contact Julie Mahoney at email@example.com. You are also welcome to call the church office and Celeste will be happy to sign you up.
If you or someone you know is sick or in the hospital, please let us know how we can help. Please call the Parish Office at 303-388-5978 or contact Weezie Blanchard at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Celebration of New Ministry
Despite the cold and snow, the Celebration of New Ministry on February 6 was a warm and joyful occasion. The service officially marked Weezie Blanchard's term as the 11th rector of Church of the Ascension. Thank you to all who were there in person and in spirit! A recent threat to churches - including Church of the Ascension - is email-based impersonation scams targeting key personnel. Click here to read the whole letter from Diocesan Digest.
