Celebrate the Great 50 Days of Easter at Ascension

The Great 50 Days of Easter are sometimes referred to as the Great Feast because many Christians consider the 50 days of the Easter season as one long continuous celebration of Jesus's resurrection. The Paschal (Easter) candle is lit for the entire season. The altar hangings and clergy stoles are white, which represents joy and resurrection. We have special altar linens embroidered with the Lamb of God, which is another title for Jesus. Flowers return to the altar, and "alleluias" return to in our hymns and prayers, while the Confession of Sin is on hiatus until after Pentecost. See what signs of Eastertide you notice each day!

  • Easter book study resumes on Sunday, May 12. Join Weezie Blanchard on Sundays, May 12, 19, and 26 at 9 a.m. in the Library for a discussion of the Kate Moorehead's Resurrecting Easter, meditations on the 50 days of Easter. Copies of the book are available at amazon.com and other on-line booksellers.

  • Ascension Sunday at Ascension on Sunday, June 2. This year, we will celebrate both the Ascension of Jesus and the Church of the Ascension with a special 9 a.m. service on Sunday, June 2, followed by a potluck brunch for all ages. Look for more details to come.

  • Help read the Gospel in many languages on Pentecost Sunday, June 9. Pentecost is the final day of the Great 50 Days of Easter, when we celebrate the descending of the Holy Spirit on the apostles and other followers of Jesus. Suddenly, all of them were able to proclaim the good news in the languages of all whom they encountered. We will commemorate this miracle by reading the Gospel in different languages. If you speak another language and would like to participate please contact Weezie Blanchard at weezie@ascensiondenver.org
