Congratulations! Laura Osborne
On January 8, our parishioner Laura Osborne was admitted as a Candidate for ordination to the Priesthood by Bishop Rob O'Neill and the Standing Committee of The Episcopal Church in Colorado. Following her nomination by Church of the Ascension, Laura became a Postulant and began her seminary training at Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, California. She currently serves as seminarian at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Centennial. We continue to keep Laura in our prayers.
In order to be more accessible and welcoming to our children and their families, Sunday school is moving downstairs. Beginning Sunday, March 10, Sunday school for 4-12 year-olds will be located next to the Nursery (across from the back hallway entrance to the Parish Hall). In order to make the space as warm and welcoming as the current space, Coordinator of Children's Ministries Sue Richardson has organized a cleaning and painting day on Saturday, February 23 beginning at 9 a.m. If you can attend, please let Sue know at email@example.com - or simply show up!
Women's Homelessness Initiative
Our participation in the Women's Homelessness Initiative is off to a great start. Ten parishioners participated in preparing and serving a delicious meal to homeless guests at the Althea Center. Our next date for serving a meal is Sunday, February 24. Please sign up to participate on the Outreach Committee bulletin board in the Parish Hall. If you have questions, please contact parishioner Jan Douglas at firstname.lastname@example.org.
An invitation "to the observance of a holy Lent"
The season of Lent prepares us for Easter Day, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord, the central event of the church year, and the theological core of the Christian faith. Throughout the season of Lent, which begins with Ash Wednesday on March 6, we will explore ways for all ages to observed a holy Lent, in the words of the Book of Common Prayer, "by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word." Join us for Ash Wednesday services at noon and 7 p.m. on March 6 and a Lenten Quiet Day from 9 a.m. to noon on March 9. Stay tuned for more information about Wednesday evening offerings for adults and children (including child care).
Do you have a favorite Lenten book or other spiritual practice that you would like to share? Please email Weezie Blanchard at email@example.com.
