This is a celebration of and for the entire parish, and everyone is invited. The preacher will be the Rev. Canon Ruth Woodliff-Stanley, Canon to the Ordinary in The Episcopal Church in Colorado.
Say it with flowers
Altar flowers are a meaningful way to celebrate all the blessings in our lives, whether we’re remembering the anniversary of a deceased loved one’s birth or death or honoring the birth of a new baby, a baptism, confirmation, graduation, marriage, wedding anniversary, or other milestone. If you would like to give altar flowers in memory or honor of someone, please sign up on the flower calendar by the Parish Hall entrance or contact Julie Mahoney at email@example.com.
Meal train for the Kahler family
Luzon, Jim, and Louisa welcome meals as they settle in with baby Pilar. For more information, please go to http://www.foodtidings.com or contact Joanna Dukes at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Office Volunteers Needed
Our team of office volunteers make things run much more smoothly for all of us. If you are interested in helping in the Parish Office on Mondays through Thursdays between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., please contact Parish Administrator Celeste DeLeon at email@example.com.
Thank you to all who participated in the Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting this past Sunday, January 27 celebrated 2018, an amazing year in the life of Church of the Ascension. In accordance with our Bylaws, Holly Butler, John Douglas, Molly Freeman, and Phillip Weiss each were elected to serve on the Vestry for a consecutive three-year term. Elected to one-year terms as officers were Ann Dykes as Senior Warden, Holly Butler as Junior Warden, Lonny Kandel as Treasurer, and Chris Nazar as Clerk. Special thanks to Amy Leonard, Doris Kimbrough, and Barb Watson for organizing a delicious brunch.
Women’s Homelessness Initiative
Our participation in the Women’s Homelessness Initiative is off to a great start. Ten parishioners participated in preparing and serving a delicious meal to homeless guests at the Althea Center. Our next date for serving a meal is Sunday, February 24. Please sign up to participate on the Outreach Committee bulletin board in the Parish Hall. If you have questions, please contact parishioner Jan Douglas at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Whenever two or more are gathered
Did you know that every Sunday during communion at the 10 a.m. service, fellow parishioners are available to pray with you at the back of the Church about whatever or whoever you wish to pray? Join them for this meaningful parishioner-to-parishioner ministry.
An invitation “to the observance of a holy Lent”
The season of Lent prepares us for Easter Day, the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ our Lord, the central event of the church year, and the theological core of the Christian faith. Throughout the season of Lent, which begins with Ash Wednesday on March 6, we will explore ways for all ages to observe a holy Lent, in the words of the Book of Common Prayer, “by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.” Stay tuned for more information about services, Wednesday evening offerings for adults and children, and more.
Do you have a favorite Lenten book or other spiritual practice that you would like to share? Please email Weezie Blanchard at email@example.com.
Church of the Ascension is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive place for children to learn about God's love, prayer, and faith. Unless otherwise announced ahead of time, Sunday school takes place each Sunday during the first part of the 10 a.m. worship service. We follow the Godly Play curriculum, with additional enrichment lessons. Coordinator of Children’s Ministries Sue Richardson meets the children in the hallway by the Parish Office and leads them to the classroom, so please have your children at church by 10 a.m. Latecomers are welcome, but should quietly enter the circle. Sue leads the children back to Church in time for them to join their families for Holy Communion. For more information, contact Sue at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Godly Play room is currently located upstairs and down the long hallway to the back of the church. Don't let the hallway fool you – the room is bright and cheerful (and we will soon be downstairs next to the Nursery!)
Baptism at Ascension
Scheduled dates for Holy Baptism include April 21 at 8 a.m. (Easter Day), June 9 (Day of Pentecost), and November 3 (All Saints’ Sunday). If you are interested in having your child (or yourself!) baptized or would like more information about baptism at Ascension, please contact Weezie Blanchard at email@example.com or Celeste DeLeon at 303-88-5978 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you or someone you know is sick or in the hospital, please let us know how we can help. Please call the Parish Office at 303-388-5978 or contact Weezie Blanchard at email@example.com.
Getting to know you
If you are a visitor, please pick up a welcome card from one of our ushers or in the back of a pew. If you would like to receive email from us, please contact Celeste DeLeon at firstname.lastname@example.org.
