Baptisms at Ascension
This Sunday, January 13, we celebrate the Baptism of Our Lord. At the 10 a.m. service, we also celebrate the sacrament of baptism for our parishioners Tyler Thomas Ray, Jr., son of Ann Collier and Tyler Ray, and Jackson Hendricks Westphal, son of Brie and Aaron Westphal. We are delighted to welcome the newest members into the household of God through the sacrament of Holy Baptism.
Other scheduled 2019 dates for Holy Baptism at Ascension include April 21 at 8 a.m. (Easter Day), June 9 (Day of Pentecost), and November 3 (All Saints' Sunday). If you are interested in having your child (or yourself!) baptized or would like more information about baptism at Ascension, please contact Weezie Blanchard at firstname.lastname@example.org or Celeste DeLeon at 303-388-5978 or email@example.com.
Pursuant to the Constitution and Canons of the Episcopal Church in Colorado and the Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws of Church of the Ascension, our Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, January 27 at 11:15 a.m. in the Parish Hall. The agenda includes reports by Treasurer Lonny Kandel, Senior Warden Ann Dykes, and Rector Weezie Blanchard, as well as the election of Vestry officers and this year's class of Vestry members. The slate of Vestry members is Holly Butler, John Douglas, Molly Freeman, and Phillip Weiss, each of whom have been nominated to serve a second consecutive term in accordance with the Bylaws of Ascension. The Bylaws stipulate that qualified voters must be adult baptized members in good standing and regular contributors.
Celebration of New Ministry
The formal institution and induction of Weezie Blanchard as the 11th Rector of Church of the Ascension will take place on Wednesday, February 6 at 7 p.m. in the Church, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. This is a celebration of and for the entire parish, and everyone is invited. The preacher will be the Rev. Canon Ruth Woodliff-Stanley, Canon to the Ordinary in The Episcopal Church in Colorado.
Women's Homelessness Initiative
On Sunday, January 27, Church of the Ascension will begin participating in the Women's Homelessness Initiative, a consortium of over 50 congregations, agencies, and groups, and over 750 volunteers who provide dignity, care, compassion, respect, and presence to homeless women and children in the Denver area. Ascension will provide one meal each month. To participate, please (1) sign up to provide meatloaf, potatoes, salad, or dessert on the Outreach Committee bulletin board in the Parish Hall, (2) buy and make/cook your items at home, (3) bring your items to the Althea Center, 1400 Williams Street on January 27 at 4:45 p.m. For more information, please contact Jan Douglas at 404-290-9843.
Haiti and Honduras
The Episcopal Church in Colorado is sponsoring five Diocesan-wide mission trips in 2019. Upcoming trips include Petit Trout de Nippes, Haiti, from February 22-March 1 and El Hogar de Amor y Esperanza in Tegucigalpa, Honduras from March 1-10. Mission trips are an incomparable way to develop broader and deeper relationships with fellow Anglicans throughout the world. If you think you are called to go, you probably are! For more information, contact Buck Blanchard, Missioner for Outreach and Mission at the Episcopal Church in Colorado, at firstname.lastname@example.org. Buck will also lead an Adult Forum and preach at Ascension on March 3, which is World Mission Day.
Meal train for the Kahlers
Baby Kahler will soon be here, and the Kahlers would welcome meals from their family and friends to ease their transition to a family of four. Please see details and sign up for a meal if you are so inclined.
Church of the Ascension is committed to providing a welcoming and inclusive place for children to learn about God's love, prayer, and faith. Unless otherwise announced ahead of time, Sunday school takes place each Sunday during the first part of the 10 a.m. worship service. We follow the Godly Play curriculum, with additional enrichment lessons. Coordinator of Children's Ministries Sue Richardson meets the children in the hallway by the Parish Office and leads them to the classroom, so please have your children at church by 10 a.m. Latecomers are welcome, but should quietly enter the circle. Sue leads the children back to Church in time for them to join their families for Holy Communion. For more information, contact Sue at email@example.com or click here.
The Godly Play room is currently located upstairs and down the long hallway to the back of the church. Don't let the hallway fool you - the room is bright and cheerful (and we will soon be downstairs next to the Nursery!).
