Buen Camino!

Buen Camino! (Translation: A good journey!)

This Sunday begins a very special journey for seven of our parish youth. Lily Freeman, Lila Arnold, Lyndsey Benes, Hope Cherubini, Charlie Wetzel, Collins Davis, and Will Caulkins are embarking on the pilgrimage of a lifetime. Accompanied by parishioners Ann Collier and Tyler Ray, hiking guides Jennifer Phar Davis and Brew Davis, and myself, we will be hiking about 100 miles of El Camino De Santiago de Compostela, or, The Way of Saint James.

El Camino de Santiago is a pilgrimage route that dates to the Middle Ages. Christians from every corner of Europe, Russia, and the British Isles walked hundreds of miles to visit the burial place of St. James, the Apostle. St. James is entombed in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, and it remains a very active pilgrimage destination to this day. Every year, thousands of people from all over the world make the trek: Some walk 10 miles, some walk 500, some walk 1,000. On this pilgrimage we will be deepening our faith, forging bonds of community and friendship, worshiping together, and experiencing where God takes us with our legs, and our hearts. Saint James, pray for us!

I will be away from the parish for the next three Sundays. Two for the Camino pilgrimage, and one for a visit to our sister parish, St. Peters Walworth, in London to preach. I ask for your daily prayers for all of us as pilgrims on El Camino. We will surely be holding you in ours. Look forward to many photos and stories of our pilgrimage experience to come.

Yours faithfully in Christ,

Fr. Lucas+

P.S:

Today feels like a great day for singing! So be sure to come on over to the parish this evening for our third annual festive parish hymn sing! Starting at 6pm, we will gather in church to sing our favorite hymns. There will be an opportunity to request a hymn during the hymn sing. The event is followed by a potluck dinner in the parish hall, so be sure to bring a dish to share. Dan Romero fills us in more about this below.

Mass on the Grass, Sunday, July 24, 10:00

We will be having church in Little Cheesman Park on June 26 for the 10:00 service. Please join us for our annual "Mass on the Grass" and enjoy worshipping outside in the beauty of God's creation. For those of you who do not wish to join us in the park, the 8:00 service will still be in the church, as usual. We need volunteers to help set up and tear down. We are also in need of a pickup truck, van or SUV to help us move tables and chairs from the church to the park, and back afterwards. Please call the office if you can help us next Sunday.

Anyone who plays instruments are especially welcome to participate in this event. Guitar, clarinet, flute, violin, and other instruments would be especially appropriate for these services.
