Holy Week 2016 at Ascension

Dear Friends in Christ,

The fulcrum of the Christian year is upon us.  Holy Week begins this Sunday with Palm Sunday.  These liturgies recall for us the story of Jesus'  Passion, Death, and Resurrection.  Each one is profoundly moving and they brin g us deep into the heart of the Christian Gospel.  Below is the schedule of services.  Prayers for all, and a special blessing on your week.

Faithfully in Christ,

Lucas

PALM SUNDAY

March 20th, 8am and 10 am.

We will celebrate Jesus' triumphant entry into Jerusalem with the passing of palm branches and, at the 10 a.m. service, the Church of the Ascension's annual Palm Sunday procession, led by the Colorado Youth Pipe Band.

MAUNDY THURSDAY

March 24th, 7:00 p.m.

This service commemorates the institution of the Lord's Supper and honors Jesus' command to love one another with the washing of feet.  The altar and sanctuary is then stripped of all decor as we move towards Christ's Crucifixion, death, and burial on Good Friday.

MAUNDY THURSDAY ALL NIGHT PRAYER VIGIL

"Could you not watch with me one hour?". On Maundy Thursday evening, we invite everyone to come and pray for an hour during the night after the service from 9pm through 8am. A sign-up sheet is on the ushers table or email rector@ascensiondenver.org. For the safety and peace of mind of our parishioners, Ascension has hired an off-duty police officer to be at the church all night.

GOOD FRIDAY

March 25th, 12:00 noon.

A solemn liturgy to commemorate the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ.  Holy Communion from the Reserved Sacrament.

March 25th, 7:00 p.m. - Tenebrae, A Service of Darkness

EASTER VIGIL

March 26th, 7:30 p.m.

We will mark the beginning of Easter in this ancient service in which we await the Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

EASTER SUNDAY & EASTER EGG HUNT

March 27th, 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.

The culmination of Holy Week, Easter Sunday celebrates the Resurrection of Christ. There will be a celebratory Coffee Hour after the 10:00 a.m. service and an Easter Egg Hunt for all the parish children in Cheesman Park.
