In the fall of 2012, as the Thanksgiving Holiday was approaching, and I was still very new at Ascension, a parishioner turned to me and asked "aren't you excited for Pie Night"? To which I responded, "what the heck is Pie Night"? I had not yet been initiated into the great mystery of this local church feast. "It's the night before Thanksgiving! We all gather and have pie for dinner! It's like a pie potluck!" I, of course, was thrilled. This is clearly the parish that God intended me to serve. And that very special night is once again upon us. This coming Wednesday, November 23rd, plan to join your parish family and friends for Thanksgiving Mass and Pie Night! We gather for worship at 6pm, where we are nourished by the celestial food of the Body and Blood of Jesus. We gather to offer our thanksgiving and gratitude for the many blessings of this life. We gather to hear the good news of the Gospel of Jesus. And we gather to see the face of Christ in one another. And then...PIE NIGHT!! After worship, we will head to the parish hall for a pre-Thanksgiving feast of pies, broth sweet and savory. Plan to bring your favorite pie to share, and prepare for the mystery of this great feast to delight you.
Wednesday, November 23rd, 6pm
Your faithfully and gratefully in Christ,
P.S. This weekend, after three long months, we welcome back Fr. Gary Horle and his wife Carol from their time of service to the Church in Hawaii. Fr. Gary will preach and celebrate and it will be wonderful for us to all welcome them home to Denver!
