Established in 1989 as an organization to address the unique needs of young musicians and dancers, the Colorado Youth Pipe Band has become the most dynamic educational system for children desiring to learn the Great Highland Bagpipes, Highland Drumming and Highland Dance, training more than 100 pipers, drummers and dancers over the years. The band meets and rehearses year round at the Church of the Ascension, with most performances and contests occurring during the months of March through October. The Band performs at public venues ranging from schools, corporate events, restaurants, parades, etc. with its goal being to entertain and educate as well as to teach band members the finer points of musicianship, public performance and audience interaction. The Band has performed and competed in Scotland, California, Utah, New Mexico, Arizona, North Carolina, Kansas, and Texas as well as participating in local highland games. The Church of the Ascension has hosted the Band since 1996.
