Christmas brings families together to celebrate and feast. At the center of that celebration must always be the Christian feast of the incarnation and nativity of our Lord. At Christmas we celebrate the almost incomprehensible gift of God becoming human and making his dwelling among us. Christmas doesn’t just commemorate the birth of Jesus two millenia ago, it brings to us the reality that God is with us today and every day.
Ascension offers three Christmas services. Our principal celebration is in the early evening on Christmas Eve. Offering a children’s homily and inviting guests musicians to join the Ascension choir make this service especially suitable for families with children. Our late service Christmas eve is bathed in candlelight and beautiful arrangements of favorite Christmas carols for all to sing. Traditionally the Rector and his wife host a small reception following this service and offer a Christmas toast.
On Christmas morning we gather in the breaking winter sunlight to celebrate the light of Christ. With favorite carols, this service is a more intimate time to worship and pray. |
