All Saints Sunday

This Sunday we celebrate the great Feast of All Saints (transferred from November 1st).  At these services, we celebrate the witness and the lives of all the saints, known and unknown to us, from all ages and places.  We also commemorate those loved ones in our lives who have died and gone before.  There will be a sign up sheet for you to write the names of those in your lives who have died so that we may commemorate their lives at our Sunday morning masses at both 8am and 10am.

Advent Lessons and Carols

For the Second Sunday in Advent, in lieu the usual Sunday morning Mass, we mark the season of Advent with a special offering of Advent Lessons and Carols. This is a service of special readings that tell the story of Advent and the coming of the birth of Christ at Christmas.  Carols, hymns, readings, and prayers make this service a very special time to welcome the season of Advent as we prepare of the birth of Jesus.  Coffee hour will follow in the parish hall.

Children's Christmas Pageant and Lunch for Families at the Rectory

The children and youth of the parish offer their annual Christmas Pageant on the 3rd Sunday in Advent at the 10am service, as they tell the story in dramatic form of the birth of Jesus.  Children and Youth of all ages are invited and encouraged to participate.  Following the pageant, a pizza party lunch is provided for all children, youth and families at the Rectory, hosted by Fr. Lucas and Meredith Grubbs.

Holy Week begins on this day, Palm Sunday, as we prepare more intentionally for the coming of Easter.  At our usual Sunday worship times of 8am and 10am we celebrate Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem with the distribution of palms and singing of hymns.  At the 10am service, we are joined by the Colorado Youth Pipe Band as we process around the neighborhood to the sounds of bagpipes as we wave palms in joy.

The Triduum, or Great Three Days begins with the Liturgy of Maundy Thursday, as we observe Jesus' greatest commandment, that we love one another.  The Liturgy of Maundy Thursday, with foot washing, and commemoration of the institution of the Eucharist, begins at 7pm.  Following the service, there is an all night Vigil in the Chapel of Repose in response to Jesus' question, "could you not watch with me for one hour?"  An off duty police office will stand watch over night for the security of those keeping vigil during the night hours.

Annual Parish Meeting

Following the 10am worship service, Church of the Ascension holds our annual parish meeting in the parish hall over a special coffee hour.  Hear from the Rector, Wardens, members of the Vestry, and heads of various ministries about the work of the parish from the previous year as well as goals and dreams moving forward.  The Vestry and Rector present the parish budget for 2017, and there is ample time for conversation and questions.  The meeting begins promptly after the 10am service, and lasts an hour to an hour and a half.

Oktoberfest! 4th Annual Celebration!

This year marks our 4th Annual Ascension Oktoberfest!  Join friends, family, and parishioners for an evening of food, fun, and the Rectors Home Brew!  Oktoberfest is a feast of wonderful food, live music, and delicious libations (non-alcoholic, too!).  This is not only a time to be together and celebrate, but is a special fundraiser for the parish as we go into the fall season!  This year, Fr. Lucas will be bringing out four new Home Brew creations which will be on offer for donations.  Bring your family, bring and invite friends.  You can't miss this one!

Hymn Sing and Parish Potluck

Our annual parish Hymn Sing takes place on Friday, July 24th at 6pm, followed by a festive parish potluck!  Come and sing your favorite hymns, both new and old, from our own tradition and from many other traditions.  This is a fundraiser for Friends of Music and all proceeds go to supporting the music program at Church of the Ascension. $50 guarantees your favorite hymn will be sung.  You can make requests to music director Dan Romero by contacting him at daniel@ascensiondenver.org and you can also make requests for your favorite hymn that evening!  This is our third annual hymn sing, and it's a wonderful way to spend the evening, raising our voices in joyful song!

A parish potluck follows in the parish hall!  Please bring a dish (main, side, dessert, etc) of your choice to share!

Bishop's Visitation and Festive Coffee Hour

Bishop Rob O'Neil will make his triennial visitation to Church of the Ascension this Sunday.  Bishop Rob will preach and celebrate masses at both the 8am and 10am services.  This will also be Tim Dunbars first Sunday serving as a Deacon in the liturgies.  We will be recognizing and honoring our recent class of confirmands.  And after the 10am service, the parents of the confirmands will host a very special luncheon coffee hour for the Bishop, Tim, and our confirmands.  This will be a wonderful Sunday in the life of our parish.  Plan to join in these sacred festivities!
